Accomplishment Research International was founded by Bob Young, former Group President at The Lockheed Corporation. Bob believes that our everyday experience of rapidly increasing change, mounting complexity and surging turmoil is a critical new challenge that few have learned to cope with. He sees our tradition of cicumstance dominated thinking and acting as less and less effective in producing results as our ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances lags further and further behind. Bob's own experience building his career and business success on leadership thinking and acting has convinced him it's time for more of us to learn we don't have to be boxed in by the traditions we grew up with.
Bob has a track record of outstanding personal and organizational success. He graduated last in his class of over 600 from high school yet rose to lead a $2.5 Billion high technology organization of more than 20,000 people at Lockheed. As a CEO he turned around a shrinking $30 Million company to growing over 1000% to more than $325 Million. He kept the same management team that was in place during its six year decline and did not terminate any employees. He led a corporate team to the unprecedented Lockheed win of the $15 Billion NASA Space Shuttle Processing Contract and his company to winning a national quality and productivity award among many other successes.
It's easy to see that keeping the lifestyle they've got is more important to most people than creating a new one. Said another way, avoiding losses is more important to most people than gaining benefits. Nearly everyday we see it's easier to build a coalition of people against something than for something. It's important to notice that what people are against is almost always manifest in circumstances they don't like and what people are for hasn't yet manifest in circumstances. What people are against is in their face and can't be ignored. What people are for is usually only an idea that is easily abandoned when significant resistance is encountered. Showing people the power of leadership thinking in a world run by cicumstance dominated thinking is a major challenge. It's also one that can't be ignored as change rate, complexity and uncertainty continue to increase.
